Uncollared: Seeing the Future of Work Like a Robot

XR Bavaria

Artificial intelligence and increasingly intelligent robotics are starting a displacement in service jobs, amounting to 70% of our workforce. Many of these jobs don’t rely on physical labour anymore and automation of these white collar jobs follows a different pattern than what we historically know from blue collar automation – which is largely underestimated. Largely, the solution to this has been to look to reskilling.  But what potential pitfalls are there in relying exclusively on reskilling, and are there alternatives? Anthropologists Lora Koycheva and roboticist Rafael Hostettler provoke us to see the future of work like a robot.

Knowledge transfer and remote support using mixed reality and live video

Exhibition 4

Globally distributed machines and complex systems as well as the qualification of globally distributed teams of experts are increasingly presenting manufacturers and machine operators with service and support challenges. A lack of skilled personnel or expertise on site can quickly lead to longer downtimes and high travel costs for service technicians. Mixed Reality can offer exciting solutions here.

REWEIV is the intelligent service platform for remote support and knowledge transfer using augmented reality and live video. The system is optimised for professional use with Microsoft HoloLens and offers the functions: Live video (remote support), file sharing (documents, photos, videos) and virtual step-by-step instructions. All content stored in the system can be assigned to specific objects (e.g. machines) and can be created and loaded independently by the user via QR codes as virtual AR objects.

The platform is not a pure communication solution comparable to numerous videoconferencing or desktop sharing offers, but is oriented towards classic hotline processes and provides information and expertise object-related as well as "self-service" for the users. An integrated role and authorization concept enables the release of target group-specific AR content and the integration of customers and external employees. All content and data can be changed or extended by the customer himself via a web backend. Thus, no service providers are required for changes. The system is available as a cloud or on-premise application.

The solution was developed in cooperation with manufacturers from the plant and mechanical engineering industry and is available for productive use.

During this online session we will present the AR Service Platform REWEIV in live operation with the Microsoft HoloLens 2.

XR as the key to future real estate design and marketing - XCYDE

Exhibition 1

With PORTER we have developed an intelligent software platform for interactive real-time sampling and high-end visualization of real estate projects.

In concrete terms, this means that PORTER ensures that real estate projects can be walked through, sampled and experienced digitally and in real size right from the design and planning phase - and this in a realistic manner. A unique selling point are the connected original product databases of manufacturers.

Project developers benefit from PORTER above all through earlier marketing opportunities for their properties, and manufacturers through the expansion of their distribution channels.

We show how we use XR, among other things, to create a truly authentic "real estate experience". Step into our real estate world!

Virtual acoustic product development -Fraunhofer IDMT

Exhibition 1

With VIPRA, Fraunhofer IDMT presents a new tool for digital product development that makes the sound of virtual products a realistic experience for the first time - even before a first prototype has to be built.

VIPRA provides an exact, acoustically three-dimensional image of the virtual prototype. Acoustic properties such as volume, timbre or the intensity of sound radiation in different directions in space can be heard reliably and in real time from any perspective. The acoustic quality of the finished product can thus be experienced with one's own senses during the development phase and its effect can be individually assessed.

"Overview of grant funding for product and service development"

Exhibition 4

Research and development (R&D) are cornerstones of securing the future of the German economy. Every year, three percent of the gross domestic product (GDP), i.e. approximately EUR 70 billion per year, is to be spent on R&D projects. This is offered in the form of grants, reduced-interest loans or equity participations.

The majority of these programmes are provided by the Federal Government. In addition, the individual Länder and the EU offer further R&D programmes. The focus of all R&D funding programmes is on financial support for personnel costs that are specifically incurred for the respective project. Other cost items, such as equipment and instruments, can also be funded, provided that they can be clearly assigned to the respective project.

The presentation will address three prominent R&D funding programmes - ZIM, KMU-innovativ and the BMBF's call: "Interactive Systems in Virtual and Real Spaces - Innovative Technologies for the Digital Society" - as well as the Research Allowance Act.

"Financing the European market launch with the EU programme EIC Accelerator

StartUps/Hochschulen

R&D grant funding in Germany typically ends as soon as a prototype or demonstrator is available (TRL 6). So-called up-scaling activities up to series-production readiness (TRL 9) are excluded from subsidy support under state aid law. To bridge this capital-intensive "valley of death", the EU has initiated a grant programme. This individual subsidy programme with a 70% subsidy rate and a maximum subsidy of € 2.5 million is very attractive for many (also young) small and medium-sized companies with a clear European focus.
